Les Échos Études publishes a survey devoted to organic food products. Work analyzes market recovery, the recompositions at work in distribution, and the challenges to be met to return to solid growth.

After several years of turbulence, organic is starting a recovery. While it was weakened between 2021 and 2023 by inflation, household budgetary decisions and the confusion created by competing labels, it returns to growth since 2024. In a context marked by tensions on supply and a decline in public support for the sector, this improvement remains fragile.. The recovery is first carried out by the specialized network, on the front line during the organic crisis, with numerous closures of points of sale. Since 2024, brands are returning to encouraging growth. This recovery is based on in-depth work on prices, the restructuring of the store network and the rise of own brands. For the year 2025, the leader Biocoop records sharp increase in sales and launches an ambitious store opening plan by 2029. La Vie Claire and Naturalia confirm the trend and note real customer feedback in store.
In mass distribution, a more timid recovery
The decline in organic was accentuated by the decline in assortments, less visibility on the shelves, and the withdrawal of some of the major generalist brands. The recovery observed in 2025 is mainly based on private labels and specialist organic brands.. This development reflects a refocusing of the offer around more readable and more accessible references., in a circuit where the price gap with conventional remains a major obstacle.
The keys to a sustainable recovery
Market consolidation will depend on the ability of players to respond to several structural challenges. The first is that of trust : the price remains the main obstacle to purchasing, but distrust of the AB label and competition from less demanding labels continue to fuel confusion among consumers. The second issue is that of supply, in a context of decline in agricultural areas cultivated organically since 2022. According to Les Échos Études, the market could reach 16,5 billion euros in 2030. This growth trajectory requires restoring the credibility of organic, to find the right price, to sustainably secure the sectors and finally to better reconcile expectations in favor of local, transparency and quality.
