Port de Longoni : the public establishment is operational
Since September 1, the public establishment of the commercial port of Mayotte (EPPCM) is the manager of the port of Longoni. He succeeds Ida Nel’s Mayotte Channel Gateway company, whose contract has been terminated.
The first days of this management were marked by a blocking of deliveries of goods by the handling company Manuport, belonging to the same Ida Nel. The latter considered that the EPPCM did not provide all the insurance guarantees and highlighted IT incompatibility problems with the Establishment's system.. The Mahorais port returned to normal operation during the second week of September.
The management of European funds in the spotlight
The public interest group “Europe in Mayotte” (Gipeam) could do better, estimates the regional chamber of accounts in a recent report. The Group was created in 2021 by the Mayotte community to improve the management of European funds to which Mayotte can claim since its accession to the status of Ultra-Peripheral Region. According to the magistrates, the community, became Department-Region this year, “has not yet fully appropriated the tool for implementing the funds necessary for the development of the archipelago”. The regional chamber points to the lack of sufficient training for agents, which questions “the capacity of Gipeam members to achieve the requirement for expertise inherent to European integration”.
Among his recommendations, it also highlights the need to adapt calls for projects so as to make them accessible to small businesses, which make up the bulk of the island’s economic fabric.
Mahorese students in Quebec
August 29, Ben Issa Ossani, president of the Department-Region of Mayotte, signed an agreement in Quebec with four general and professional education colleges (CEGEP) which have been welcoming young Mahorais since 2022. 65 Mahorese students have already benefited from the mobility policy towards “la Belle Province”, supported by the community of Mayotte. The Quebec CEGEP model combines training, professionalization, and proximity to businesses.
