Economic activity remained dynamic in the third quarter of 2022 in Reunion despite tensions on prices and war in Ukraine, underlines INSEE in its last economic note, published at the end of January. The volume of paid working hours remained 14% higher than its level before the health crisis and salaried employment continued to increase over this quarter., with 1,600 additional jobs compared to the previous quarter. Employment growth is solely driven by the private sector. It is especially notable in services to businesses and individuals, accommodation, catering and construction. Tourist numbers on the island are well above their level before the health crisis.. The hotel room occupancy rate stood at 70,5% au 3e trimestre, up 7 points compared to the 3rd quarter of 2019. This increase is explained by that of hotel occupancy, but also by a 3% reduction in the supply of rooms. INSEE also highlights a slight increase in business creations and dynamic activity in the construction of collective housing..
