A public establishment for the port of Longoni
The Department-Region of Mayotte and the public establishment of the commercial port of Mayotte (EPPCM) presented at the beginning of August the new price list for the port of Longoni which will come into force on September 1. It concerns in particular the provision of lifting and handling equipment, storage of goods, refrigerated containers, ship services, port security, the occupation of the port area as well as the parking of heavy goods vehicles, pleasure and professional fishing. The EPPCM is a temporary public industrial and commercial establishment, which will allow the continuity of the operation of the port until the attribution of a new public service delegation. The one that was allocated twelve years ago to Mayotte Channel Gateway, company owned by Ida Nel, ends September 1, despite the protests of the person concerned.
323,153 inhabitants in Mayotte, according to INSEE
INSEE persists and signs, despite the rumors and the deep conviction of the majority of elected officials and the population of Mayotte : the 101st French department is home to just over 323,000 inhabitants, far from 450,000, even more, put forward by some. The results of the census organized at the end of 2026-beginning of 2026, made public in early July, show an increase in the number of inhabitants of = % (66,635 people) since the previous census, in 2017. Population growth slows, but stay strong. INSEE affirms, plenty of supporting evidence, that its agents “went everywhere” and that its figures take into account the entire illegal emigrant population.
Two new barges ordered
Two new barges will be purchased by the Department-Region of Mayotte to secure maritime rotations between Grande Terre and Petite Terre. They will replace two old barges, damaged and out of service since the passage of Cyclone Chido at the end of 2024. The investment, in the amount of 20,8 million euros, will be supported to the tune of 15 million by the European Union solidarity fund, of 3,4 million by the VAT compensation fund and 2,4 million by the Department-Region.
