Mars Wrigley announces the deployment on all of its varieties of a mono-resin sachet designed for recyclability. An industrial development that simplifies the composition of packaging while preserving product quality and food safety standards.

Until now made of several layers of different plastics (polyethylene and polypropylene) making their recycling more complex, M's pockets&M’S change their nature. They are now made from a unique material : polyethylene reduces the complexity of packaging layers and facilitates their integration into recycling channels, thus contributing to the development of a circular economy. This eco-design project was launched in 2019 within the Mars Wrigley factory in Haguenau (Bas-Rhin), first European factory to produce the famous M chocolate balls&M’S® and project pilot site. Local teams have carried out more than 200 tests and devoted thousands of hours of research and development to meet the numerous technical challenges : strength of the film to support the weight of the products, quality of sealing, ease of opening, performance on packaging lines, or even preservation of the quality of confectionery. After the conclusive test carried out on the M pouch&M’S Choco, the entire range is in the transition phase on this recyclable mono-material. The initiative is part of Mars Incorporated’s general strategy to make 100% of its packaging recyclable., reusable, or compostable.
