33,880 recruitments planned this year : needs remain massive

Public sector : 7 800

In 2026, 500 entities, or 56% of the public sector, plan to hire. Are mainly concerned : public establishments, teaching, health and social action. Main recruiters : the municipalities, educational establishments, school funds, the CCAS (Municipal social action centers). Premises maintenance workers are the most sought after.

Associations : 6 300
This is 500 fewer than in 2025 (-7 %). However, 40% of associations, i.e. 950 establishments, plan to recruit. Cultural activities, sports, recreational and leisure activities as well as education account for 26% of needs. Most requested profession ? Gardener.

Services for individuals : 7 050
With 1,500 establishments (or 26% of the sector) declaring themselves potentially recruiters, forecasts are up 4% compared to 2025. It is in health and social action that they are strongest : 500, i.e. +22%. Kitchen helpers and multi-skilled catering employees, especially, are wanted.

Business Services : 3 700
This is 600 fewer than in 2025 (-14 %) : Only 16% of establishments in this branch of activity (1 050) plan to recruit. A strong decline, with one exception : professional cleaning, which plans to hire +23%.

Construction : 3 100
Three out of ten construction companies plan to recruit, or about a thousand. Forecast is up 300 (+11 %). A sign of recovery ? General masonry and structural building work, earthmoving, electrical installation, painting and glazing account for 55% of the needs.

Commerce : 3 100
Another relative decline : one in five businesses (5) only plans to recruit this year. A hiring forecast decreasing by 450 (-13 %). Retail (grande distribution, hardware store, stations-service, pharmacies, clothing, sports articles) concentrates 71% of needs ; wholesale, 17 % ; the trade and repair of automobiles and motorcycles, 12 %. Cashiers and self-service employees are most in demand.

Industry : 2 000
The industry continues to recruit : +9% compared to 2025. The agri-food industry accounts for half of these needs, of which 43% are seasonal. The manufacturing of metal products and activities related to machinery and equipment represent 17%.. With 11%, the waste collection and processing sector is the third largest provider of jobs. As always, skilled workers in the food industry dominate industrial recruitment needs.

Agriculture : 850
Slight increase (+3 %) forecasts. As always, They are mainly agricultural workers. 45% of recruitment projects, mostly seasonal, relate to sugar cane, and 20% fruit crops.

Survey carried out between October and December 2025 among 23,900 establishments (Reunion has 26,700). 6,600 responded.
