The public establishment created in 2018 at the initiative of the Réunion Region is changing its identity. After the deployment of very high speed, the structure has expanded the scope of its activities : it now supports the territory's digital sector in new missions such as cybersecurity in the service of citizens, businesses and communities.

The new logo of La Réunion Connectée indicates a turning point while building on its heritage. The DNA of Réunion THD, symbolized by the representation of the connection, recalls the historical base and the successful deployment of optical fiber on the island. Reference to a Wi-Fi symbol or fingerprint places connectivity, openness and people at the center of the structure’s expertise. The Connected Meeting does not represent a break, but the natural evolution of a network builder who became an architect of digital life serving the citizens and organizations of Reunion. “Our role is now to structure a complete digital ecosystem that is both useful, secure and accessible, capable of supporting the development of the territory over time”, souligne Normane Omarjee, president of La Réunion Connectée.

The territory covered by optical fiber

The initial mission of Réunion THD responded to a simple challenge : allow all Reunion Islanders to access very high speed broadband in sectors neglected by private operators. Objective achieved : in total, 25,500 homes spread across seven municipalities were connected. In these areas, the coverage rate reaches 100% (excluding new constructions), including in the most isolated areas of the high. The Gazelle local loop, digital highway of the island, makes it possible to bring very high speed to all Reunion Islanders in all points of the island and promotes competition between internet access providers for better quality/price ratio.

A cyber shield for the economic fabric

Having a network is no longer a goal, but a starting point in the face of the multiplication of threats. To protect the local economic fabric, La Réunion Connectée deploys a cybersecurity strategy supported by Cyber Réunion, which revolves around two key mechanisms : EDIH Reunion (European Digital Innovation Hub), funded by Europe and the Réunion Region, has already made it possible to carry out 91 evaluations, 61 “Cyber Départ” diagnostics and offers financing of 65% of security measures ; the CSIRT Reunion Island (Computer Security Incident Response Team), incident response center co-financed by the Region and ANSSI, handled 60 calls in 2025, notified 47 vulnerability reports and participated in raising awareness among local stakeholders via webinars and crisis management exercises.

Digital sovereignty and resilience

Faced with the island's strong dependence on external connections, the Connected Reunion roadmap includes an axis dedicated to the resilience and digital sovereignty of the territory. A collective vision is emerging : that of a connected territory, inclusive and innovative. The aim is to enable each citizen, each company and each community to take full advantage of the opportunities offered by digital.
