Ewa Air is serving Antananarivo again
Since April 3, the Mahorese company Ewa Air, Air Air Air subsidiary, relaunched the regular Dzaoudzi-Tananarive connection. Its 64-seat ATR 72-600 flies twice a week between Mayotte and the Malagasy capital : Tuesday, and Friday. A Sunday frequency will be added during peak seasons. In 2016 and 2017, Ewa Air briefly operated the line before suspending it due to lack of profitability. She temporarily restored it during the high season December 2025-January 2026. The test was deemed sufficiently conclusive to put it back in place.
The law of hardened soil
Last May 6, the provision voted by Parliament in 2025 to toughen the conditions for obtaining French nationality by children born in Mayotte to foreign parents has entered into force. From now on, nationality is granted to children whose two parents were present in Mayotte at the time of their birth on a regular and continuous basis for at least one year. Since 2018, the presence on the territory of a single parent for three months allowed a child to claim French nationality. The difficulty of providing proof of regular and continuous presence of parents in Mayotte could complicate, or even prevent access to nationality for many children of Comorian origin.
Reconstruction supported activity in 2025
Sustained activity, filled order books : in 2025, Mahorean construction companies have benefited from public efforts for the reconstruction of the island devastated by Cyclone Chido in December 2024. According to the annual report of the Issuing Institute of Overseas Departments (Iédom), the trade and services sectors, on the other hand, were affected by the consequences of the cyclone despite inflation contained at 1,3 %, which favored the resumption of consumption. Iédom underlines that the economic situation of Mayotte remains fragile while the national budgetary context does not encourage optimism regarding the materialization of the financial commitments announced in 2025 for the “refoundation” of the 101st French department.
