From September 18 to 30, Design Week 2026 had the national theme “D for challenge”. An invitation to explore the way in which design can support transformations and respond to the challenges of our time.

Design Week has found its place in the Reunion cultural landscape. When we think about design, it’s often about aesthetics, to the applied arts that we think, but has little place in daily life. This year, with a theme focused on challenges, Design Week addresses contemporary issues : ecological transition, education, but also health and justice. So many areas where design is called upon to intervene. Supported by the Réunion Design Alliance, Design Week aims to bring together projects and actions during these 15 days. In the program : conferences, workshops and exhibitions. The objective of bringing design to meet the public.

A dozen highlights
for example, in Saint-Benoît, the Rouge Ruelle arts event offered a time for discussion around the city and its transformations. Ombres Tresées is a collective project dedicated to the know-how of braiding plant fibers from the Indian Ocean : a research and creation laboratory explored new uses of plant fibers from the Indian Ocean. Organized by the Regional Innovation Committee, The Innovation Mornings organized a morning dedicated to the discovery of issues offering opportunities for innovation. Without forgetting “Made in Réunion”, the exhibition and permanent scenography of objects and furniture designed and produced on the island.
