The construction phase has started in Saint-Paul, on the site of the former Gabriel Martin hospital center. This urban reconversion operation provides for the creation in the heart of the city of 125 social housing units, of offices, of shops and public spaces.
The project is led by the real estate development company Ocidim with the support of SIDR and Actisem. (corporate real estate subsidiary of Semader). It aims to breathe new life into this strategic land area to transform it into a mixed neighborhood combining housing, economic activities and public spaces. By 2028, Kour Gaby will bring together 125 social and mixed housing units acquired by SIDR, 1,800 m2 of offices and 2,456 m2 of shops developed by Actisem, as well as 247 parking spaces. There will be added public spaces intended to support new users of the district.. By giving a second life to an already urbanized site, the project intends to limit the artificialization of soils and strengthen the place of vegetation in the heart of the city within this new district. The operation is in line with the objectives of the ZAN law (Zero Net Artificialization) and the Territorial Revitalization Operation (ORT) from downtown Saint-Paul.
A place of memory
“The former Gabriel-Martin hospital belongs to the memory of Saint-Paul. From now on, it also belongs to its future. This is our vision of urban renewal : transform without erasing, meet the needs of residents, make a more lively city center, more attractive and more sustainable », declared the mayor of Saint-Paul, Emmanuel Séraphin during the laying of the stone for the construction site on September 9 in the presence of numerous personalities including Clément Lecuivre, Chairman of the Board of CDC Habitat, who participates in the financing and support of this operation.
Plastik Akoz at the World CleanUp Day meeting
Like every year, the inter-company association Plastik Akoz mobilized on September 19 for World CleanUp Day, global citizen protest to clean up the planet.
Plastic Because organized for this, in addition to free pickup, activities for kids (lontan games from 3 years old), a team challenge on an orienteering course (from 7 years old) and creative workshops around the environment (accessible to all).
This mobilization illustrates the desire of companies from different worlds to come together around the same conviction : preserving the environment and reducing waste.
Other economic players were invited this year to join the movement. The Macé Group and Total Energies Réunion responded to this call by supporting this citizen demonstration.
This mobilization deserves all the more to be highlighted as, if for almost ten years Réunion stood out as one of the most active departments in France during World Cleanup Day, in 2026, the dynamic generally seemed to stall across the island.
