In October 2023, the ambition was realized in Reunion with the signing of the Regional Food Sovereignty Plan.
A monitoring committee met on April 21 to take stock of the territory's progress and prepare for updating this plan., in the presence of around fifty players from the agricultural world. The discussions made it possible to take stock of the evolution of the share of food consumed in Reunion from local production. : between 2024 and 2025, the share of locally produced fruits and vegetables increases by two points to reach 64%, despite the impact of cyclones Belal and Garance. As for local meat production, she also continues to progress : in accordance with the objectives set, coverage of needs reached 39% compared to 36% in 2020. On the other hand, several significant advances were recorded in 2025 on all areas of the Regional Food Sovereignty Plan : include the finalization of the mapping of livestock effluent spreading plans, the establishment of a master’s degree in agronomy in the region, the production of the construction guide in agricultural zones, the search for alternative solutions to phytosanitary products, the realization of extended inter-professional contributions in the breeding sectors, or the start of the second phase of the bovine leukosis sanitation plan.
