Midas celebrates 50 years of supporting the mobility of French people

Since 1976, the brand has established itself among the main players in multi-brand automobile maintenance and repair. On the occasion of its fiftieth anniversary in France, it looks back on half a century of innovation and commitment to drivers, in a context of profound transformation of the vehicle fleet and its uses.

The story of Midas began in the United States in the 1950s., when Nate H.. Sherman creates a network specializing in the rapid replacement of exhaust pipes. The first center opened in 1956 and the concept enjoyed rapid success thanks to a simple model : fast services, accessible and transparent. The brand arrived in France in 1976. She then introduced an innovative concept for the time : car maintenance without appointment, allowing motorists to have their vehicle repaired quickly and at a fair price. Driven by the franchise model and the entrepreneurial spirit of its partners, the brand is growing rapidly in France. Constituting a local network present throughout the territory, Midas currently has nearly 375 centers there. Over the decades, the brand has broadened its field of expertise. Initially focused on exhaust pipes, the network now offers a complete range of automobile maintenance and repairs, meeting all brand needs.

The changing automotive sector

In fifty years, the automobile repair market has been profoundly transformed : the evolution of technologies, on-board electronics or the arrival of hybrid and electric vehicles have changed the skills needed to maintain vehicles. At the same time, expectations have evolved. Purchasing power and the cost of vehicles push the French to keep their car longer. The average age of the park today exceeds 11 years, reinforcing the importance of reliable and accessible maintenance. “For 50 years, Midas' strength lies in our listening to motorists and our ability to evolve with them. Our profession has certainly changed profoundly, but our mission remains the same : allow everyone to ride with complete confidence”, underlines Julien Gourand, Managing Director of Midas France.

Midas expands its field of expertise

In 2009, Midas launched “The Preserved Manufacturer’s Warranty Overhaul”, allowing you to maintain your vehicle while maintaining the warranty. For its 50 candles, the brand will also launch offers aimed at the “young” target as well as for vehicles over 15 years old., or a simplified maintenance offer. It also relies on its private label such as its Tenor tire range, the fourth generation of which, called Tenor 4, has just seen the light of day. The brand is also developing Midas Glass, an activity dedicated to the repair and replacement of windshields. Launched in 2025, this offer allows customers to benefit from an additional service within Midas centers. At the same time and in order to support the rise of electrified vehicles and driver assistance systems, the company continues its investments in the training of its teams and in diagnostic technologies.
