In their 2024 activity report, the regional audit chambers of Reunion and Mayotte highlight their openness to civil society, via online platforms that collect reports of irregularities or proposals for controls made by citizens.

The rooms have also received new assignments, which allowed that of Reunion Island to carry out an evaluation of public waste management policy and that of Mayotte to control the primary schools of Mayotte. The year 2024 was also marked by a report from the Court of Auditors on dock dues, to which the Domian regional chambers contributed. Published in March, it “highlights the ambivalent effects of dock dues : if it constitutes an essential source of financing for municipalities, this complex tax perpetuates dependence on imports”, judge the magistrates, who recommend “substantial reforms to strengthen its management, readability and economic efficiency, while guaranteeing the tax resources of communities”. Visiting Reunion shortly after, Pierre Moscovici had to react to the wave of protests triggered by this report, both within communities and local production companies. The president of the Court of Auditors recommended that the territories concerned make proposals for changes to the system, without waiting for the European Commission to impose its reform views.
