R2D2, entity of the Ravate group responsible for waste treatment, installed two new compactors on the Leroy Merlin store sites in Sainte-Marie and Saint-Louis. These are the first compactors on the market to treat conventional waste and so-called non-compactable waste., such as scrap metal, bulky, large wood and cardboard.

Leroy Merlin has installed within its Sainte-Marien and Saint-Louisien stores, two new ORK 3 compactors produced by the Gillard company, specialized in inert waste management. With a capacity of 30 m³ instead of the usual 20 m³, the ORK 3 compactor is mainly used for the new concept of flat waste disposal and has a compaction power of 45 tonnes, compared to 38 tonnes for a traditional road roller. The installation of these new innovative tools was coordinated by the company R2D2 (Recycling and Resourcing for Sustainable Development), the environment division of the Ravate group responsible for implementing all means useful for transport, for the handling and processing of waste from Leroy Merlin, as well as all of the group's stores on the island. “Through this type of action, the Ravate group remains more than ever committed to preserving the environment.. Leroy Merlin, For its part, has been committed to sustainable development for several years. The offer proposed in terms of waste management by the Gillard company, corresponds to what we want. With these new acquisitions, both stores have a mini-recycling center on site which will be able to handle significant waste processing” explains Nabeel Patel, the general director of R2D2.

A universal machine
The ORK 3 compactor is equipped with a shovel system and a bucket with a rounded bottom, mechanism similar to a household waste bin for bulky items. “Users load the bucket to allow optimized filling thanks to the rounded bottom until it is full” explains Nathalie Gillard, Gillard Development Manager, French manufacturer of waste treatment equipment, whose partnership with the Ravate group is not recent. Leroy Merlin concretizes its commitment to equipping itself with efficient and innovative tools to ensure the management of its waste. “The advantages of the ORK 3 compactor are undeniable in that they allow easy loading, secure and efficient from the ground for users. They have a high compaction power which minimizes transport costs, and above all, it is a universal machine that can compact all waste streams, especially wood, scrap metal, the bulky ones… » specifies Nabeel Patel. The Leroy Merlin brand thus acquires two unique machines in Reunion and the surrounding islands.

WASTE PROCESSING AT THE PORT STORE
The brand has equipped its very latest establishment in the Port, opened last October (its largest store), a compactor roller for wooden materials, a horizontal baler for cardboard materials, and a stationary compactor for all ordinary industrial waste.
