Recently, the Reunion delegation of the National Center for Territorial Civil Service (CNFPT) took stock of this important part of the public service on the island.
A survey carried out among 76 communities and public establishments covering nearly 100% of the workforce made it possible to identify and analyze territorial employment.. The territorial civil service brings together 36,500 agents – or more than 11% of regional employees – in the municipalities, public establishments, social services, cultural or sporting. “Without them, no canteen, no welcome, no maintained roads, no social support”, underlines Mario Moreau, regional delegate of the CNFPT. The study identifies 259 professions : multi-purpose agents, animators, social workers, administrative agents, school cooks, technicians, computer scientists… 56% of these jobs are found in municipalities and 30% in school sectors, catering and sport. 43% are full-fledged civil servants. They are supported by the CNFPT, who faces significant challenges : arduousness, aging of the workforce (54% of agents are over 50 years old)… To do this, it deploys training systems, consulting and engineering.
