From January to March 2026, 4,890 new cars were registered in Reunion, according to the Deal quarterly economic report, i.e. a drop of 8,7% compared to the same period in 2025.
Registrations are at their lowest since 2023. The decline is particularly marked for diesel vehicles (-46 %), but it also concerns gasoline cars (-1,6 %) and electric (-18,3 %). Only category increasing : plug-in hybrids (+11,7 %), which however represent the smallest number of registrations (120) over the quarter. Used car registrations remain much more numerous, in the meeting, than those of new cars : 15,710 during the first three months of the year. They are stable (+1% compared to the 1st quarter of 2025). Gasoline and electric cars are becoming more and more common on the second-hand market. However, diesel cars remain the most sold : they represent half of second-hand sales for the quarter. On a national level, the drop in new registrations is more moderate (-2 %) than on the island. Sales of electric cars are increasing sharply and used registrations are falling in the same proportion..
