The European Parliament voted on May 19, almost unanimously, a favorable opinion on the extension until December 31, 2027 of the dock dues regime. This being the penultimate step before the formalization of the renewal of this system specific to the French Overseas Departments. The final stamp will be given by the European Council during the month of June. The pressure increased a notch on this issue at the start of the year, when Brussels announced a plan to modify the regime which could have threatened several local production sectors. It was finally abandoned. The Association of Mayors of Réunion underlines that the vote of the European Parliament “is a strong signal to the attention of the European authorities for the real consideration of the specific rights of the outermost regions”.
