Collecting used oils in Mafate

In March, Cyclevia collected used oils stored by the residents of Mafate. The first in 10 years. For this operation, the eco-organization called on the logistical expertise of Suez RV Réunion.

This initiative aimed to collect a stock estimated at 2 or 3 tonnes of used oils, as well as their soiled packaging : used oils and lubricants from generators and small motor equipment. Beforehand, all families were distributed an educational leaflet by post. March 2, 34 200 liter drums were transported by helicopter before being distributed to 17 sites across the circus. The filled barrels were collected on March 16. Eventually, 400 liters of used oils were collected. Suez RV Réunion set up the organization, ensuring the safety of people, materials and containers, as well as waste traceability and transport regulatory compliance. “Cyclevia called on us for our ability to set up special collection operations of this type”, explains Arnaud Serron. The latter cites the example in 2022 of the emptying of the holds of the Tresta Star – the wreck of the ship stranded on the coast of Saint-Philippe – by a team from Suez RV Réunion. The Mafataise operation thus proved the feasibility of a more regular collection of used oils in the circus.
