Since the start of the health crisis, food banks must respond to increased demands, like the Banque Alimentaire des Mascareignes which saw its stocks decrease drastically during the first confinement. The number of poor people it helped increased from 79,000 in 2019 to 130,000 in 2021, an increase of almost 40%. The Bernard Hayot Group heard his call for help and set up a partnership to finance the delivery of containers. A container of products particularly in demand in Reunion Island arrived in mid-May. After Guadeloupe and Martinique, our island is the 3rd overseas department to benefit from this partnership : this is the first time that the Food Bank network has benefited from such support. According to the terms of the agreement between the French Federation of Food Banks and GBH, the latter will finance the transport of foodstuffs at the rate of several containers per year, offering Food Banks access to its mainland container stuffing platforms. The FFBA will strengthen, For its part, the coordination of exceptional supplies by soliciting the solidarity of its metropolitan network and its usual donors.
