Construction authorizations for new housing increased by 3% in Reunion compared to the previous year, just like construction starts – according to the Déal economic report. 6,180 building permits were issued last year.
The increase is mainly driven by individual houses (+ 10 %). At the same time, 6,420 housing units have been started. The 3% increase mainly concerns grouped individual housing (+ 38 %). In 2025, 390,000 m2 of non-residential premises have been authorized for construction on the island (+ 21 %) compared to 2024, in connection with the expansion of public service sectors, of agriculture, hotel accommodation and commerce. 204,000 m2 of non-residential premises have also been started – a stable surface area compared to 2024. The extension of public services, of commerce and crafts is offset by a lesser deployment of warehouses and agricultural installations. On a national level, authorizations for non-residential premises are stable while construction site openings increase. Always at national level, the issuance of building permits for housing has recorded a clear increase (+ 16 %) after several years of decline. The trend is also on the rise for the start of housing construction (+ 7 %).
