The economic unit of the construction industry in Reunion recently published its annual economic report for 2024, which highlights the persistence of the crisis.
5,537 housing units were started last year (-1 %), mostly in the collective, for group projects, with smaller average surface areas. Construction authorizations, for their part, fell by 14%.. A clear recovery has, in parallel, was recorded in non-residential construction, with an increase of 28% in the surface area of construction sites started in 2024. Buildings intended for commerce continue to decline. Annual developments in non-residential construction must be considered with caution, due to the irregularity of this activity. Project authorizations thus fell by 1%, in terms of surface, in 2024 : the improvement will not be lasting.
