The Region voted on March 18 for the first budget of the mandate, which reflects the orientations of the new majority. The initial 2022 budget, which amounts to 862 million euros, thus decreases by 2,9% compared to the previous year. This slowdown is a continuation of the presentation of the draft term of office, at the end of January. Patrick Lebreton, first vice-president in charge of general affairs and the economy, had alerted the assembly to the very high level of debt of the community :
1,3 billion euros of outstanding debt, nearly 12 years of debt reduction capacity and 231% debt rate. Only the themes of “human and inclusive development”, particularly that of professional training, are not sacrificed in the initial 2022 budget and benefit from an increased envelope (+3,9%, at 315 million euros). In terms of “economic development”, the community is reducing its effort and announcing increased recourse to European funds. The regional council wants to make savings to “strengthen” its own funds and reduce its debt, by making “more use of savings and subsidies than borrowing” to finance its investments.
