Mi-September, 7,000 Reunionese participated in the World Clean Up Day, consisting of collecting waste in nature, but above all to raise awareness among the population of the dangers represented by these. On the island, 51 actions were organized, bringing together associations, citizen groups, schools, businesses and a local authority. Ensemble, they collected 28 tonnes of waste, including 32,000 cigarette butts, half of which was collected by the Biodiversity Research Agency association in Reunion Island. Nearly 40 kilos of waste were also collected at sea by the Réunion Marine Observatory and the Granddir association.. In the same spirit, the Digital clean up day will be organized next March : it consists of “cleaning” the cloud, to limit the production of electronic waste and energy consumption through digital uses.
