This too : energy consumption under control

The agricultural cooperative managed to drop, in 11 years, the energy consumption of its Port factory by more than a third while doubling its egg production.
“Before joining the assURE program, we felt a little isolated in our energy saving approach…” remarks Patrick Le Lionnais, operations manager at Ovocoop. AssURE labeled, the company is considered an “old hand” in energy management, and therefore an example to follow for those who embark on this path. Ovocoop is reaping the benefits of an energy management policy implemented at the initiative of Patrick Le Lionnais' predecessor from 2008 and widely validated by its administrators.. Pursued by him, today it leads to spectacular results. Hot water production and cold production for conditioning, egg storage and office air conditioning, are the two main sources of energy consumption. Ovocoop has implemented centralized technical management (GTC) equipment. The start-up of the boiler heating the production water has been automated and a water tank, heated by the recovery of waste heat from the cold units, allows you to have temperate water for washing equipment. Skylights make it possible to largely do without lighting in the production room. For the circulation of water in the circuits, frequency variation pumps adjust electricity consumption to needs. Leaks have been removed. The equipment of the Cold group has been replaced by less energy-consuming equipment. Latest investment, an energy management table for closely monitoring changes in energy consumption. All these measures were supplemented by raising staff awareness of responsible use of energy.. Results : This too, which consumed 583 megawatts in 2008, consumed 315 in 2019 for a production doubled. Financially, energy savings made it possible to absorb the increase in EDF prices over 10 years : the amount of the invoice has not increased. Next step : the solar, an independent energy source that, by limiting the use of the EDF network, will significantly reduce the electricity bill. As for the assURE Label, it will soon appear on the packaging of Fleur Jaune eggs, Ovocoop’s own brand.
