Human development index : Mauritius and Seychelles at the top of Africa
Mauritius remains the best-placed African country in the Human Development Index ranking. (IDH) established by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to measure health, education and standard of living in 191 countries. Mauritius appears in 63rd place in the 2021 world rankings, published on September 8, and loses one place compared to last year. Seychelles remains in second place overall in Africa, ranked 72nd in the world. Comoros and Madagascar occupy the unenviable 156th and 173rd positions (23rd and 37th out of 53 for Africa), like last year. The HDI declined in most countries around the world for the second year in a row. France, for its part, occupies 28th place in the ranking (unchanged), and Switzerland succeeds Norway on the top step of the podium.
