Overseas Minister Sébastien Lecornu, announced it during his visit to Réunion from February 13 to 15 : the State will financially support the construction of a 2-mile viaduct,5 km to complete the New Coastal Route. The choice of a viaduct rather than a dike was made the previous week during a plenary meeting of the Regional Council. “The option we recommend is the viaduct”, Huguette Bello then revealed on February 9, during the examination of the 2022 budget of the Region. The recommendation became a quasi-decision a few days later. After a meeting with the president of the community, project owner of the NRL, Sébastien Lecornu expressed the government's will, expressed in a letter signed by the Prime Minister, the rapid conclusion of a financial agreement with the Region to complete the road. The final section of the viaduct could cost 500 to 700 million euros. Discussions are underway to refine the budget forecast and determine Paris' participation. “It will not be an anecdotal agreement”, insisted the minister, indicating that the decision will be made before March 19, start date of the pre-presidential electoral reserve. Jean Castex could make the trip in person to announce it at Reunion.
