IBL, solid leader of Mauritian companies
IBL is the first Mauritian conglomerate, confirms the annual ranking of the Top 100 companies on the island established by the La Sentinelle press group. The group which is about to buy Run Market in Reunion has achieved a turnover of 35,8 billion in 2021-2022. The Ciel group comes in second place (28,5 billion), before ENL (13,5 billion). The Rogers Group, which was at the top of this ranking for a long time, only appears in 16th place.
The Mauritian population is aging
Between 2011 and 2022, the population of Rodrigues Island increased by 3,220 inhabitants, but that of Mauritius fell by 5,110 souls. These are the first results of the 2022 census, supervised by Statistics Mauritius. The Republic of Mauritius today has 1,191 million inhabitants, against 1,196 in 2011. This population decline is the first recorded in a century. The average age of the population has increased from 34 to 38 in eleven years, and the number of people per household of 3,5 to 3,3.
Exports are rising
The Mauritian government recently welcomed the rise in the country's exports, which reached 37 billion rupees during the first nine months of 2022, against 31,2 for the same period of 2021. South Africa remains the main destination for Mauritian exports (17% you total), followed by the United Kingdom (12 %), France (12 %) and the United States (11 %). After a year 2021 still impacted by the pandemic, the progression concerns the main export items : textile, seafood products, jewelry, watchmaking, medical devices.
