According to the latest economic report from DEAL (Environment Department, planning and housing), 5,020 housing units were started in Reunion between July 2025 and June 2026.
A figure down 19% compared to the previous 12 months, under the effect of a sharp drop in the number of launches of collective housing projects (-37 %). On the other hand, construction of individual housing increased by 12% after several years of decline, construction authorizations recorded an increase of 18% over the period, . Authorized grouped individual housing projects are making further progress (+17%) than pure individual housing projects (+11%). From July 2025 to June 2026, 491,000 m² of non-residential premises have also been authorized for construction. Authorized surface areas are growing strongly (+52 %) over one year. They are increasing significantly in all sectors, with the exception of warehouse premises and offices. Construction starts on non-residential premises covered a total surface area of 260,000 m2 (+52 %). The increase mainly concerns areas allocated to shops and public services, particularly those of health and education.
