Consumer prices increased by 3,3% in twelve months in Reunion, according to the INSEE index covering December and the whole of 2021, against 2,8% for the whole of France (outside Mayotte). In 2020, prices had fallen by 1% and remained stable at the national level. The largest increase was in petroleum products (fuels and gas bottle) : +31,3% in twelve months. The overall increase in energy prices is 22,1% over the year, electricity prices having increased more moderately than those of petroleum products. The annual increase is 3% on the prices of services, 1% on manufactured products. The rise in tobacco prices is also strong in Reunion (7,3%), while stability is observed at the national level. The rise in food prices is much more moderate : 1,2% on the island, against 1,4% in France. In the month of December, they went down by 0,8%, driven by the decline in prices of fresh products thanks to the arrival on the market of large quantities of seasonal fruit. Over the year, food prices excluding fresh products increased by 0,4% only.
