The jurisdiction bringing together the regional audit chambers of Mayotte and Reunion has drawn up its 2025 annual report, marked by two new features : in Mayotte, the first public thematic report devoted to primary school ; and in Reunion, the first evaluation of territorial public policy relating to the prevention and management of waste on the island.
The report on Mahorese schools highlighted the insufficient places as well as very discriminatory registration conditions : 3,000 to 5,000 children of school age would escape compulsory schooling. What's more, only 8% of school children benefit from a hot meal at midday, because the municipalities, who massively build refectories thanks to state funding, are hesitant to put them into service due to the operating costs involved. Despite the dire needs, the Mahorese municipalities spend 38% less per student than those in France. In the meeting, the study on waste pointed to prevention, “poor relation of waste management policy”, as well as uneven collection performance and structural processing delay, “However, in the process of catching up”.
