In January 2025, the consumer price index measured by INSEE in Reunion increased by 0,9% compared to the previous month. This is the largest one-month increase since July 2023, while at the national level prices increased by 0,2% only in January.
Prices for services have increased by 1,2% in January (+1,2 %), after +0,8% in December. Prices for communication services remained stable, those of transport services fell by 9,2% with the seasonal drop in airfares. Rent prices, water and household waste collection increases (+0,2 %), as well as those of the health services (+2 %). The rise in prices of other services (+2,2 %), which represent almost half of the “services” budget of Reunion households, is driven in particular by the increase in insurance rates. Food prices increased by 0,8% on the month. Those of fresh products are on the rise again (+3,3 %), after nine consecutive months of decline. Prices of food products excluding fresh produce, which account for 87% of the household food budget, increased by 0,5% after two months of stability. The prices of manufactured products, for their part, increased by 0,4% in January. Energy prices continued to rise (+1 %) under the effect of the rise in prices of petroleum products (+1,8 %) while the price of electricity remained stable. Finally, tobacco prices increased by 0,7% on the month.
