Pineapple exports fell by 25% in 2025, announces the Directorate of Agriculture, of food and forestry in its latest economic report.
1,302 tonnes were shipped last year, i.e. 456 tonnes less than in 2024. Explanations : “The Victoria pineapple is a long-cycle crop (18 to 24 months). In 2024, Cyclone Belal led producers to postpone their plantings during the year. The drought in the second half of 2024 then the health problems accentuated by these climatic conditions led to a drop in yields and production in 2025, as well as a deterioration in the quality and size of pineapples. Added to this are the constraints of higher production and export costs. (inputs, workforce, packaging, fret) which compressed export margins, making the Victoria pineapple from La Réunion less competitive. »
