In the second quarter of 2022, 1,800 jobs were created, after the slowdown of the previous quarter linked to health conditions, announces INSEE in its economic report. Tourist activity regains momentum, with a 5% increase in hotel occupancy over the quarter compared to 2019. The volume of paid working hours in July 2022 was 12% higher than in July 2019. In the second trimester, Réunion had 282,900 salaried jobs (+0,6% compared to the previous quarter). Over the quarter, half of the jobs were created in accommodation and catering and in commerce. Despite the price increase, with concerns over supplies linked to the war in Ukraine, business and job creation are significant (2,900 creations), especially in industry. However, their number fell by 7% compared to the first quarter.. The construction of collective housing remains particularly dynamic, 7,950 building permits were granted from July 2021 to June 2022 (+2% in one year). On the other hand, employment falls in the public sector (-0,5 %) for the third consecutive quarter. In this context, the unemployment rate is almost stable and concerns 19% of the active population.
