The latest monthly barometer and the annual typological survey on the over-indebtedness of overseas households from the Issuance Institute of Overseas Departments reveals various particularities of the situation in Reunion.

Overindebted people in Reunion are more often single men than in other overseas territories., less often single women. They rarely own (— 6%), most often tenants and more often than in other Dom, except in Mayotte, permanent employees. The demographic weight of the island is also reflected in various statistics. In February 2025, 54% of over-indebtedness files filed in the Overseas Territories were, for example, in Reunion Island, where the number of deposits per 10,000 inhabitants was 2,3, against 1,56 in all Dom and 2,25 in France. Reunion represents 43% of bank account right designations (following a refusal to open an account by a bank) of all Overseas Territories and 50% of people registered in the central check file. The number of these people per 10,000 inhabitants is 24,89 on the island, against 20,41 in all Overseas Territories and 8,17 in mainland France.
