The revision of the Regional Biomass Plan was recently approved by the permanent commission of the Regional Council. The document sets the objective of mobilizing nearly one million tonnes of biomass in 2030 and 1,1 million tonnes in 2050, by significantly increasing the share of livestock effluent, sludge from sewage and industrial plants and sorted organic waste.
Three areas of action have been defined : methanization and heat production, wood heating in the Hauts, with experimentation in educational establishments and the evaluation of the exploitable deposit of invasive species in public and private forests. Currently, 1,6 million tonnes of biomass are produced annually on the island. They mainly come from cane (29 % bagasse, 19% cane straw, and 15% distillery stillage) and livestock effluent (19 %).
Power supply and return to the ground are prioritized (52 %) ; energy recovery concerns 39% of the resource (bagasse and vinasse). 9% of the deposit is not valued, goes to landfill or is released into nature.
