Mobility facilitates professional integration

In the meeting, Integration into the labor market is more common for people born on the island and who have already left it at least six months, reveals an INSEE study, carried out on the basis of the 2021 data. 59 % of Reunionese who lived more than six months outside have a job, compared to 48% of people born on the island and who have never left it or only for short stays.

It is not the mobility path in itself that has an effect on access to employment, but rather the training course, underlines the study. Indeed, people who have had a long stay outside Reunion often have higher diplomas. However, the level of training remains the main lever for improving professional opportunities on the island.. The professional integration of people born in France and living on the island is also more frequent, more, at the same level of diploma, they do not have a job more often than other residents of the island. Nevertheless, they more frequently hold managerial jobs. As for the people who never left the island, just like those born in the Indian Ocean region (Madagascar, Mayotte, Maurice, Comoros), they have less access to employment, even with identical characteristics.
