As the European Union prepares to redefine its regional policy in its next multiannual financial framework, concern is growing in the outermost regions (RUP). After 2027, the support that the EU provides to its most remote regions could be reduced after 2027.
At the beginning of February, the States concerned (France, Spain and Portugal) have come together within a coalition aimed at “recalling and promoting the importance of taking full account of these territories”. “The challenge is both to define the future of the political approach of the European Union towards the ORs, to simplify the application of European law to the specific realities of these territories to give full effect to Article 349 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU, and to provide an adequate level of funding to these regions in order to improve their integration into the common market.", indicates the French ministry responsible for Europe. For this purpose, information and exchange meetings with European representatives will be scheduled. As a reminder, the ORs are : for France Guadeloupe, Martinique, Guyana, The meeting, Mayotte and Saint-Martin ; for Spain, the Canaries ; for Portugal, Azores and Madeira.
