The increase in air traffic after the health crisis is occurring more quickly than expected at Roland-Garros airport, who welcomed 2,3 million passengers in 2022. This is 5% less than in 2019, before the appearance of Covid - traffic had then approached the bar of 2,5 million passengers –, but much more than in 2021 : less than 1,2 million passengers were counted at Gillot. The recovery in activity is mainly due to the strong increase in traffic between the mainland and Reunion Island. : 1,54 million passengers last year, or 5,5% better than in 2019, historical record broken. No doubt many Reunion Islanders have fallen back on France due to lack of being able to travel to the Indian Ocean., where airlines were only gradually reopened during 2022. If attendance on the Réunion-Mayotte line is growing very strongly (+26% compared to 2019), it is still down 28% in Réunion-Mauritius. The decline is more pronounced between Reunion and Malagasy destinations (-48 %), some of which were only restored in November. The return of traffic is also seen in freight, whose volumes were however less impacted by the crisis. Roland-Garros airport handled 27,000 tonnes of goods in 2022, figure approaching 29,000 tonnes in 2019.
