Players in the French poultry industry launch a benchmark for French chicken products : “Animal welfare, committed agricultural sector. »
They have been changing their breeding practices for more than ten years to improve the well-being of chickens. : French breeders unite with stakeholders in the animal sector within the collective “Agricultural Industry Committed to Raising Animal Well-Being”. The goal ? Make visible the progress already made, and continue the dynamic initiated for many years.
The launch of this benchmark responds to the ambition to provide transparency on breeding conditions, and promote the improvement of animal welfare. Easily identifiable for the consumer, it has been gradually affixed since mid-September on packaging, restaurant menus, etc., members of the collective. It certifies products from 100% French chickens, raised according to strict specifications.

26 measurable and controlled commitments
The framework guarantees five main requirements, which exceed the regulations.
– more space, to allow chickens to move more easily ;
– access to natural light in henhouses, in particular to respect the biological rhythms of animals ;
– arrangements favoring the expression of natural behaviors : perches, pecking substrates, strings, or bales of straw ;
– controlled health requirements ;
– continuing training of breeders and staff in order to maintain the proper implementation of required practices and to continually improve knowledge of animal welfare.
All commitments (26 in total) is monitored using performance indicators based in particular on the Ebene® livestock welfare assessment tool from the technical institute of poultry sectors, rabbit and fish farm (I went). It is subject to audits carried out by independent organizations.
Progress for the sector
This involves encouraging upgrading through improving animal welfare., and contribute to the growth of products raised according to the ECC (European Chicken Commitment). The approach is also part of the social responsibility of the French poultry inter-professional association. (Flight), entitled “French Poultry Cap 2035” and launched in April 2026. This benchmark brings together breeders, customers and experts., scientists and companies from upstream and downstream. Open to all stakeholders wishing to join the initiative, it already brings together more than 80 signatories and more than 1,300 committed breeders throughout France. The launch of the benchmark is accompanied by a multi-channel communication campaign (TV, presse, digital), which honors breeders who are ambassadors of the approach.
