In 2025, 35,726 acts of delinquency were recorded in Reunion, against 33,793 in 2024. This increase (+1,933 facts) is almost entirely explained by the increase in drug law violations (+1,909 facts), itself largely due to the initiative of the police and gendarmerie services.
The increase in delinquency therefore amounts to 6%, against 16% in 2023 and 9% in 2024. “This deceleration reflects the first effects of the measures taken, in particular the anti-gang plan and the strengthening of the action of the police”, estimates the prefecture. Since 2019, drug law violations are up 130% (1,980 facts in 2019, against 4,553 in 2025). An increase of 72% was recorded between 2024 and 2025, reflection of the intensification of the fight against drug trafficking but also of the expansion of this drug trafficking on the island. During the presentation of these figures on February 19 – the day before the visit of the Minister of Justice Gérald Darmanin –, customs presented their new equipment : a container scanner. Placed in a van that rotates around a container or vehicle, it can identify all the materials present, starting with narcotics. Already, 12 to 18 inspections can be carried out each day.
