The business climate indicator measured by Iédom fell by 2,2 points in the 1st quarter of 2024, falling below its long-term average (100) to settle at 99,6.
Overall activity continued to deteriorate at the start of the year, but slightly slower than in the previous quarter, estimates the Emission Institute. However, business leaders remain pessimistic and anticipate a significant drop in their business flow in the very short term., as well as a decline in their workforce.
In this context, the financial vulnerability of households increases. The number of over-indebtedness files filed with the Iédom over-indebtedness commission increased by 19,3% over one year.
Activity in the market services and agri-food sectors, however, has recovered significantly. But in the construction and public works sector, she remains gloomy, with the drop in construction starts. Activity in the trade sector (automobile trade, grande distribution…) suffers from weak consumption.
