He is the real-elect Assoumani
Outgoing President of the Union of the Comoros, Azali Assoumani was proclaimed winner of the presidential election in the first round with 62,97% of votes.
The former chief of staff of the Comorian army first took power in 1999 following a putsch. He has already held the head of the Comorian State for fifteen years : president, from 2002 to 2006, he was elected again in 2016, then in 2019. The mandate he began on January 16 must extend until 2029. His re-election, however, was the subject of heated dispute., the opposition denouncing “gross fraud”. Riots broke out on January 17 in Moroni then in other localities in Grande Comore, signs of widespread “fed up”, according to the opposition.
