Down for four years, The number of unemployed initiates a rise to Reunion since mid-201024. Fourth quarter figures confirm this.
The number of registrants at France work in category A (unemployed required to seek a job and without activity) was an average of 115,460 during this quarter, up 1% compared to the previous quarter. All categories combined, over the period there were 154,700 registered with France Travail (+0,6 %). The progression is more marked among young people : the number of registrants aged under 25 increases by 2,8% over the quarter and 2% over one year. The increase is 1,2% for 25-49 year olds (-0,3% over one year) while the number of unemployed aged 50 and over decreases slightly (-0,1% over the quarter, -0,5% over one year). The slowdown in the economy is starting to impact employment, just like the reduction in public aid for work-study contracts, especially learning, which had significantly reduced youth unemployment in recent years.
