In 2019, 258,000 inhabitants of Réunion aged 15 or over declared having gone on vacation during the last twelve months, i.e. 39% of those aged 15 or over, according to an INSEE survey. This is significantly less than the inhabitants of France (66 %). At the same time, 47% of Reunion Islanders aged 15 or over, or 308,000 people, reported going away for a weekend in 2019, for a stay of up to three nights. It’s less than in France (61 %). It is the youngest who most often go on weekends : 62% of 15-29 year olds. This share then decreases with age, those aged 60 or over being the least likely to have gone on a weekend. The most popular destinations for Reunion Islanders in 2019 are the mainland and Mauritius, who are equal.
