«M'safara», future interurban bus network
At the beginning of February, Mahorais were invited to vote online on the baptismal name of the future interurban bus network. They had to choose between four proposals. The result of the vote, in which nearly 2,500 people participated, was announced on February 17 during the plenary session of the Mayotte assembly : it will be “M’safara” ("trip" in shimaoré).
The network will come into service in the coming months, as part of a public service delegation awarded to Transdev. The first lines will go from Mamoudzou towards the south (Chirongui) and the north (Dzoumogne), or will serve Petite Terre.
Bamboo, officially recognized building material
After three years of proceedings, the Scientific and Technical Building Center (CSTB) issued a technical opinion favorable to the use of bamboo as a construction material in Mayotte. Common bamboo (Bambusa vulgaris) grows in abundance in the 101st French department, where imported building materials are particularly expensive.
A sector aimed at developing the use of this very resistant plant in construction is currently being structured.. Public procurement could be an important lever for its growth.
A first nursing home in the works
Even though the population of Mayotte is very young, it has its share of elderly people who will not be able to count on family solidarity alone to end their lives in good conditions. The Mayotte assembly launched a discussion with a view to creating the first nursing home. The community has moved closer to Alefpa (Secular Association for Education, Training, prevention and autonomy) in a city, to design a place adapted to the Mahorese cultural specificities. The establishment could see the light of day by 2030 with a capacity of 60 elderly people, with a day care offer.
