Water crisis : bottles imported from Mauritius
The prefect of Mayotte signed a decree on May 11 authorizing the importation of bottled water from Mauritius.. The prefectural decision, valid for ten months, is motivated by the worrying level of raw water reserves, linked to a rainfall deficit of unusual magnitude. End of April, the two hill reservoirs of Combani and Dzoumogné were at less than half of their cumulative level at the same period the previous year.

A first recycling center under construction
A first fixed recycling center will be opened in Mayotte at the beginning of 2024, in Chirongui, in the south of Grande-Terre. Its construction was launched a few weeks ago and, faced with the enormous delay taken by the department in the management of its waste, le More binding (Mayotte intercommunal waste elimination and recovery union) set up mobile recycling centers. Since last year, skips are left on Saturdays in various places on the island, where residents are invited to throw away their bulky items, scrap metal, green waste and out-of-use household appliances. Dumpsters are systematically filled, selon le More cohesive. Eventually, Mayotte must accommodate eight fixed recycling centers.
