Originally scheduled for February 27, the first flight between Durban (South Africa) and Pierrefonds airport is postponed. The South African company Global Aviation Operations and the company Fly Vetiv’Air, who markets these flights, jointly made the announcement in mid-February.

“A comprehensive audit of Pierrefonds Airport by the Global Aviation Operations team and a thorough assessment of local operational conditions identified certain elements requiring additional preparation time, particularly in terms of infrastructure, operational coordination and alignment of procedures for the launch of operations”, they indicated in a press release. The first rotation between Durban and Saint-Pierre is now announced for May 1st. He is a former Air Mauritius executive, Vijay Poonoosamy, who founded Fly Vetiv’ Air in order to market direct flights between Durban and Saint-Pierre. In receivership since last year, the Pierrefonds Mixed Union, southern airport manager, is under observation period until February 25. The announcement of flights to Durban, last December, was the only reassuring news for a long time for the southern airport, deserted by regular companies.
