In its latest economic bulletin corresponding to the 4th quarter of 2025, the National Union of Liberal Professions (Unappl) underlines the resilience of overseas local businesses.

According to the U2P/Xerfi Overseas Barometer, their overall turnover, however, fell by 3,2% over one year, i.e. a decline twice as marked as that observed at the national level. The decline is established at 4,4% in Mayotte, damaged by cyclone Chido, as well as in New Caledonia, where the nickel crisis persists and institutional uncertainty is at its height. In the West Indies and Guyana, the drop in turnover of local businesses stands at 3%. It is more limited to Reunion (-2,6 %). “In Reunion, the decline in the activity of local businesses is largely explained by the slowdown in real estate projects linked to the pre-electoral context, comments Abdullah Lala, president of local Unapl. This situation weakens many sectors, in particular construction and the activities that depend on it. » The decline concerns all overseas local businesses. Food (-5,1 %) is the most affected sector, ahead of manufacturing and service activities (-4,2 %). In construction, the average drop in turnover is 2,6 %, but territorial disparities are strong. Liberal professions, as for them, recorded a more limited contraction (-2 %).
