An agri-food sector contract was signed on September 11 by Huguette Bello, president of the region, and various players in the sector : the CPME, Qualitropic, the Ocapiat skills operator, the Citizen Compost network Réunion, Adir and Réunion Innovation.
After the 2020 health crisis, the regional authority had re-engaged in work with Reunion companies in order to best support the sector. After an online survey to which 60 economic actors responded, this initial work continued with the creation of a sector committee and several working groups. This cycle of reflection and exchange resulted in a collectively validated action plan in February 2023.. Several objectives have been defined : food sovereignty, food safety, healthy eating, job creation through the development of new processing sectors, reducing agricultural losses through processing, the valorization of terroirs and the development of exports. Four main levers will be activated to achieve them : l’innovation, the circular economy, respect for the environment and saving water and energy, taking purchasing power into account by offering ranges adapted to all budgets.
