In 2023, Reunion legal market units in the non-agricultural and non-financial sectors have created 9,5 billion euros of added value, for a turnover of 33,4 billion euros, and their investment amounted to 2,5 billion euros, according to the INSEE annual report on the subject.
A “legal unit”, concept now used by INSEE, is a company identified by a Siren number. It is distinct from a “company”, which can be made up of several legal units. In the meeting, legal units are overwhelmingly small : seven out of ten do not employ any employees. However, the island's economic activity is mainly driven by structures with 10 to 249 employees. They alone bring together 57% of employees, achieve 55% of turnover and generate 46% of added value. Education sectors, of human health, of social action, business services, retail trade excluding vehicles and construction create more than half of the total value added. Activity in most non-agricultural and non-financial sectors continues to grow in 2023, but more moderately than in 2022, in a national context of economic slowdown. It is more dynamic in the transport sector and in accommodation and catering. The margin rate amounts to 27% for employing structures ; it varies from 8% in the construction sector to 56% in the information and communication sector. It is decreasing in the majority of sectors.
